Donald Palmer is scheduled to be executed on September 20, 2012. The Ohio Parole Board held a clemency hearing on August 16, and on August 24 recommended against clemency. It is now up to Governor Kasich.

Doing what law and justice required, Gov. John Kasich of Ohio on Tuesday granted a two-week reprieve to Abdul Awkal, who had been scheduled to be executed Wednesday morning. Mr. Awkal, who was convicted of killing his estranged wife and brother-in-law in 1992, has a long history of severe mental illness and has been found mentally incompetent by three courts in the past 20 years.

Attempted murder. That's what Joe D'Ambrosio wants the prosecutors to be charged with.

He says the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office tried to kill him by withholding 10 pieces of evidence at his trial, evidence that could have led to a not-guilty verdict.

Charles Lorraine January 18th execution delayed

(Reuters) - A federal judge stayed the scheduled Ohio execution of convicted killer Charles Lorraine on Wednesday, ruling the state failed to follow agreed-on reforms for applying the death penalty.

U.S. District Court Judge Gregory Frost granted Lorraine, 45, a temporary delay in the execution scheduled for January 18, citing the state's failure to follow through on changes it has made to its execution process after nearly eight years of inmate challenges.

On Tuesday, a judge upheld a jury's decision that Rayshawn Johnson will die for the 1997 murder of his neighbor. Shannon Marks was beaten to death with a baseball bat in her Evanston home. An appeals court overturned the first death sentence claiming Johnson's lawyers didn't provide information about his childhood.

Representative Blair wants pause in executions to be permanent

COLUMBUS — There’s been a summer pause in the execution of Ohio’s death row inmates and state Rep. Terry Blair would like to see that pause made permanent.

“I don’t think we have any business in taking another person’s life, even for what we call a legal purpose or what we might refer to as a justified purpose,” the Washington Twp. Republican said.
