“1 hour, 26 minutes is unacceptable, inhumane, and another indication of a flawed, unnecessary death system that is irreparably broken,” stated Sr. Alice Gerdeman, chairperson of Ohioans to Stop Executions.
Ohioans to Stop Executions believe that today’s problem with the lethal injection death of Joseph L. Clark is another reason for Governor Taft to declare an immediate moratorium on executions and take an honest look at fair alternatives to the death penalty.
According to Michael Manley, board officer with Ohioans to Stop Executions, “it is ironically cruel that three days after Jeffrey D. Hill was granted a ‘stay’ in Ohio from the death penalty due to concerns over the humaneness of the lethal injection procedure, Mr. Clark’s lethal injection death is botched through repeated attempts at finding a death acceptable vein.”
Ohioans to Stop Executions believe that the death penalty is unnecessary and systemically flawed. Other states and other countries have found fair and workable alternatives that do not require an untenable search for a “humane “ execution. “Trying to use medicine to produce death is fundamentally wrong,” stated Gerdeman.
