As of January 8, 2007, there are a total of 190 inmates on death row in Ohio: 189 men, 1 woman (96 African American men; 85 Caucasian men; 4 Hispanic men; 2 Native Americans; 2 Arab Americans; 1 Caucasian female).
From 1887 through 2006, Ohio executed 367 people. The state has the fifth largest death row in the country, and in 2006 came in second only to Texas in the number of people executed.

Cincinnati Chapter of Ohioans to Stop Execution (OTSE) meets the second Tuesday of each month, 7 pm, at Peaslee Neighborhood Center, 215 E 14th Street. Work on the moratorium effort at the local level, as well as, witness/vigil the scheduled executions.

NOW IS THE TIME for the Governor to hear how many Ohioans are against the death penalty. Please take the time to send a handwritten letter to Governor Strickland explaining why you are against the death penalty. Whether it’s one sentence or one page, it will be one more person he hears from saying “not in our name”. Each letter will make that much more of a difference!!

Families That Matter (FTM), is a statewide resource organized by the Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center in 2005, meeting bi-monthy in Cincinnati. FTM trains families to prepare a clemency campaign, including drafting and circulating a petition requesting clemency. The Murder Victims Family Group - people who have experienced the violence of murder in their own families. The group is forming around a shared sense of grief and oppostion to the death penalty. IJPC is faciliting it's formation, contact us for more information.
Ohio Moratorium Campaign meets bi-monthly via conference call on the third Thursday. Ohioians to Stop Executions (OTSE) http://www.otse.org/ - launched the campaign to develop the capacity for the realization of a moratorium statewide by using the campaign to address the flaws in the death penalty - resolution by resolution, church by church and city by city. more information
