Rally for JOBS NOT CUTS!
When: Wednesday, February 20, 2013
Where: Speaker John Boehner's Office
Cincinnati - Undeterred by freezing temperatures and as part of a nationwide mobilization, a local coalition of labor, community, and faith groups led by IJPC rallied outside of Speaker Boehner’s office to deliver a unified message to Congress: We need a budget that works for ALL of the people… We need JOBS NOT CUTS!
Almost a dozen organizations from across Ohio, as well as close to 70 supporters, gathered at the office of John Boehner, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, to raise our voices and convey four clear points: Invest in Job Creation; Prevent Cuts Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security; Make the Tax Code Fair and; Invest in Jobs Not Wars
Doug Sizemore of the Cincinnati AFL-CIO made the case for Jobs Not Cuts, Karen Bell of Working America and Lynn Williams of the Contact Center passionately spoke about the need to Protect Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, and Vinny Cannizarro of IJPC delivered a powerful speech
on the need to invest in Jobs Not War. Following the rally, a delegation including members of Nuns on the Bus, Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice, and Council of American Islamic Relations met with Speaker Boehner’s staff to reiterate the points and to deliver over 50,000 petitions from Working America, Alliance for Retired Americans, and the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare insisting that Congress prevent cuts to much needed social programs. During the meeting in Rep. Boehner’s office, rally participants lined up with signs along Cincinnati Dayton Road garnering lots of honks in support of working families’ priorities.
The coalition and its members supporting JOBS NOT CUTS will continue the struggle for economic justice and for protecting ALL of the American People.
